How to Cite Materials in Digital Collections

Read this as a PDF here.

Oregon Tech Libraries offer its digital collections for public use. We request you credit or cite the unique materials you discover and use.

The way you cite what you find in the digital collections varies depending on the type of materials (PDFs of digitized books and articles, images, video recordings, maps, etc.), and the citation styles (APA, MLA, Chicago, etc.).

Include as much information as is necessary to locate the material with reasonable ease within the collection.

There are certain elements to be included in citations regardless of material type or citation style: • Author or creator (if available) • Title of the work • Date of creation of the work (if available) • Material type • Collection name • Name of repository where the collection resides • Unique identifier, such as URL (top of page in the address box) • Date of access (recommended for MLA and Chicago)
